Fall 2024 Scale Back

It’s been a busy and reflective summer for us. Over the years, we’ve learned a lot—some lessons easier than others—and we’ve come to realize that running a business takes a significant amount of time and energy, which has sometimes pulled our attention away from the important programming we’re passionate about. The truth is, we’ve been feeling stretched thin, and as much as we love the work we do, it has taken a toll on our team’s energy and resources.

After some deep reflection, we have strategically chosen to “slow down, so we can ramp up.” We’ve made the difficult decision to scale back a few areas of our operations to create the time and space needed to reset, reevaluate the programming that drives us, and figure out our next steps.

In line with one of our core values—transparency—we want to share the following changes with you:

  • We’ve streamlined pickup locations and consolidated our distribution to every other week instead of weekly.
  • We’ve paused our educational programming for the upcoming 2024-25 year, including our youth program, field trips, and other events.

Although these changes may seem like a step back, the impact has been significant:

  • With fewer competing priorities, it’s easier to make decisions and see what needs to be prioritized.
  • We now have time to address our "operational debt" (the backlog of tasks and projects we’d accumulated).
  • We’re experiencing improved work-life balance.
  • We’ve improved Fishadelphia’s supply chain and partnerships:
    • Barnegat Oyster Collective is now handling our deliveries, and Barnegat’s Best is supporting our processing this season!
    • Ardmore pickup: It’s now at Common Space, with extended pickup hours!

These shifts provide a glimpse of what this newfound spaciousness allows us to do, helping us better serve our community and plan for the future.

We want to thank you all—our members, partners, and supporters—for your patience and understanding as we navigate this next phase. Your continued trust means the world to us, and we’re excited to keep you updated as we move forward together.

Warmly,

The Fishadelphia Team
