Fishadelphia in Hope in the Water

Fishadelphia was featured in Episode 3 of the docuseries Hope in the Water (released on PBS in July 2024). We are grateful to the production team for working so hard to paint a thoughtful and accurate picture of us at that moment in time (fall 2022). We participated because we wanted to share the model and mission of Fishadelphia to inspire others, and help more people learn and support Fishadelphia itself.

We feel privileged to have been filmed alongside great seafood harvesters and activists like Dune Lankard. We want to note that there are many other inspiring folks who have been doing important fishing community-building work for much longer than us (like the Tuna Harbor Dockside Market folks in San Diego, the Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association, and many others), whose stories also need telling.

We also want to highlight that Feini, our Fisheries Consultant, along with our friends at NAMA, have raised concerns about Hope in the Water and big corporate approaches to the ocean. We’re grateful to them for keeping all of our eyes on the big picture.

If you want to keep learning about the challenges and complexities of ocean stewardship, we encourage you to watch all of the Hope in the Water episodes, read Feini’s piece and the many stories and articles they linked, follow NAMA, and use the LocalCatch Seafood Finder to find local seafood close to you.
