Shell Recycling with Pentridge Children's Garden

We have a message from our friends at the Pentridge Children's Garden in west Philly:

Greetings Fishadelphians!
We the friends and organizers of the Pentridge Children's Garden, located at 4929 Pentridge St in West Philly, invite your unique help to assist us in rebuilding our greenhouse! What are we talking about? SHELLS!
Oceanic mollusks are an original ingredient in historic and all-natural concrete formulas. The shells, composed almost entirely of chalk (calcium carbonate), are mixed with sand, wood ash, water, and lime (calcium hydroxide); and since ancient times called tabby/tabi/tabbi concrete in coastal regions all over the world. We want to utilize this culturally and ecologically valuable building method to add a renewable, pest resistant, carbon neutral floor.
All you have to do is clean and dry your shells (clams & oyster are both great), store them in a paper bag, and bring them to a workday or event at the PCG. Second Saturday workdays happen every month, and you can find more events by following our social media accounts @PentridgeChildrensGarden on Instagram and Facebook
Thank you for reading, learning more, and for any and all support as we continue down this path of revitalization.
See you out there!
